The Dream Come True

Morning sunbeams,
feet down the hallway.
Bright face, scrambled eggs,
spilling over coffee.

I'll never know just quite what I'll get, each day is a patchwork of time.
But rainbows or clouds, I promise you now I always wake up glad that you're mine.

School days, good grades.
Big conversations.
Art and paint, the mess it makes
for good imaginations.

Each day you learn more about everything. You play and you grow in the world.
They ask if it's hard, and sometimes it is, but watching you learn never gets old.

Quiet time, then we go outside.
Run and jump and fall down.
Meet up with friends and swim. Somehow you fit right in.
Despite the critics shout-outs.

Every year that goes by I wonder how. Scratch my head and ask how can it be?
Babies to toddlers to where you're all now. Four smiles shining back at me.

Dinnertime, we unwind
all of this chaos.
Tired face, we need the grade
when we're all running at a loss.

Our worst time of day never goes away. And I'm always right there through it all.
The highs and lows. It's how life goes. We're a family through the big and the small.

Moonbeams, sweet dreams.
You know how much I love you.
Tender hearts, day is done.
Tomorrow's waiting, brand new.

Warm beneath sheets your hearts beat
telling me the story.
Big kids in your beds. I kiss the crown of your heads.
Look at all that glory.

I'll never know just where you'll go, or what adventures are waiting for you.
But when I fall asleep, I promise you so, my loves you are my dream come true.
